One of the main deficits of individuals with Autism is their Speech and Language Domain. Individuals range from highly verbal to non-verbal communication and Speech therapy becomes a must.
A Speech Therapist first diagnoses and then assesses best ways to improve communication thereby making it possible to enable the child or individual express his/ her needs, feelings and experiences effectively. Those who are non-verbal may be given alternate modes of communication such as Picture Board, Picture exchange Communication system, whereby icons or pictures are used to get an idea or need across, as well as written communication.
